iris Monitor
IP-Based Monitor Hardware for In-Vehicle Use
THE CHALLENGE
In-vehicle monitors for public transport need to be robust, compact, and energy-efficient. Existing solutions are often expensive to procure, hard to maintain, and not built for the specific demands of buses and trams. Transit operators need a hardware line that integrates seamlessly with onboard networks and infotainment systems — with clear cost control.
THE SOLUTION
As Product Manager, I owned the roadmap and product development of the IP Monitor line at iris GmbH. The product spans hardware design, firmware development, and integration with existing vehicle systems. Working closely with hardware engineers, an external industrial designer, the PCB team, and the firmware team, I drove the full product lifecycle — from concept through standards and certification processes to market readiness.
Cybersecurity and data protection requirements were integrated early, alongside compliance with public transport industry standards. Collaboration with international stakeholders (DACH, Italy, France, USA, Australia, UAE, Qatar) ensured that product requirements across diverse markets were reflected in the design.
RESULTS
20% cost reduction achieved through re-design. Market readiness reached for the new generation of monitors, in alignment with production, procurement, and sales.
